Judge Sidney A. Butcher was appointed to the Circuit Court by Governor Wes Moore in December 2025. A seasoned jurist, experienced prosecutor, and dedicated community leader, Judge Butcher brings the qualities Anne Arundel County residents expect in their judicial leadership.

Nearly seven years of judicial experience serving Anne Arundel County on both the District and Circuit Court benches
Over a decade of experience as a former prosecutor and assistant attorney general focusing on dismantling criminal organizations, targeting violent repeat offenders, and pursuing fraud, waste and abuse within the State Medicaid Program.
Proven community leader as a Past President of Monumental City Bar Association, Immediate Past Chair of the American Bar Association's Criminal Justice Section, Former Chair of the ABA National Conference of Specialized Court Judges and service to many organizations on a local, state and national level.
